We got an early start because we wanted to stop at West Thumb Geyser Basin en route to our campground at Fishing Bridge, but we knew that if we did not get there early, there was no way we were going to be able to get a parking spot with the trailer connected to our truck. We also stopped at at beautiful waterfall called Moose Falls on the way. It was COLD that morning.
We then arrived at West Thumb and spent about 2 hours taking in all of the boardwalks. Lauren was totally in to it! We loved having a view of Yellowstone Lake from the boardwalks. It was a really great way to start our time in Yellowstone.
Lauren wanted to see inside the hole, so Justin picked her up so she could see inside the crater-like pot.
We arrived to Fishing Bridge RV campground right at the start of check in and my oh my was it busy! There were about 6 lanes, 6 RVs deep in there. It was a mess. It took about 45 minutes to get checked in and get to a position where we could actually go to our campsite. Parking was a bit of a challenge because the spots are so tight, but Justin backed the trailer in like he'd been doing it for years. There was still snow on the ground, so 4-wheel drive was necessary when we were jack-knifing the trailer in to its spot. I was standing on a snow mound holding a tree branch back when I slipped and fell under the truck/tire well. Thank God Justin saw me fall and stopped immediately. While we got camp set up, Lauren hung out in the trailer (much to her disappointment) but the campground roads were so busy that we wanted her to stay inside where we would know she was safe and not going to get run over by a person in an RV trying to back up.
Once we got camp set up, we went to the Yellowstone Hotel to look around and have some lunch.
We then headed back to the campground and got on our bikes to have a closer look at the actual "Fishing Bridge". We also rode to the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center to look around. It was really small.
